The Pew Family was the driving force behind the establishment of both Sun Ship and Sun Oil Companies.  Hopefully, this section of the web site will do justice to the vision and drive that this family contributed to the dramatic success of both Sun Ship and Sun Oil.  This site has been created to memorialize the the Sun Shipyard and therefore, the Pew Family's efforts directed towards the shipyard will be the primary focus.  Through their efforts, Sun Shipyard became the largest shipyard in the world during the Second World War, employing 35,633 employees at the peak. as well as designing and building the first, famous T2 tanker, with Sun Ship building 40% of all the tankers built during WWII.  In addition, Sun Ship was the 'Creator of the All-Welded' ship, the coastal tanker 'White Flash',  which helped contribute to the ability of shipyards to produce the volume of ships required to help win the Second World War by reducing the labor effort and materials required by the riviting process.
